Problem
How might we help students effectively deal with their increasing stress levels and provide them with the support they need?

Conceptual Investigation

Stakeholder Analysis

We identified and analyzed the direct and indirect stakeholders of the ZEN application.

Harms & Benefits

Potential harms and benefits of the ZEN application were identified.

Value Source Analysis

An analysis on values of the designers, stakeholders, and the project was conducted.

Empirical Investigation

Process

We conducted semi-structured interviews on on stress formation, stress evaluation, and stress reduction.

Findings

We categorized the sources of stress:

1. Type I as having control over the source
2. Type II as having no control over it

Our insights conclude that the ZEN application is effective with type II and modern therapy is effective with type I.

Technical Investigation: Prototype

Welcome to ZEN's features. As a part of the technical investigation, we developed a prototype.

View a summary of stress levels and activity during the week. Users can schedule activities, receive friendly event reminders, keep track of progress, and plan activities ahead of time for structure.

Chatbot

An AI chatbot integration that allows users to have someone to chat with problems and receive guidance on various stress-related topics. Our research showed that some users find taking to someone about their stress helpful.

Activities

Users can discover activities including exercise recommendations, discovering music, and mindfulness activities to help control their stress.

Health

For tracking health, this page provides a visualization of cortisol and heart rate measures and alerts users. The data is collected through a smartwatch that is connected to the ZEN application.
